The Ministry of Justice has announced in a written statement to Parliament that it is to delay the introduction of its legal aid reforms from October 2012 to April 2013. The new rules are currently being debated in Parliament as part of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill. Desmond Hudson, Chief Executive of the Law Society, said:

The Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission (C-MEC) has published proposals for the new statutory child maintenance scheme that include plans to increase the amount of maintenance paid by parents on state benefits and low incomes.
