Family lawyer organisation, Resolution, has warned of the potentially devastating consequences of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders (LASPO) Bill. At the end of 2011, Resolution surveyed its members who undertake legal aid work on the impact of the proposals on families and children.

As the family judge in charge of the modernisation of family justice. Mr Justice Ryder has published his first update of the family justice modernisation programme following the publication by the Family Justice Review Panel of its interim findings in May 2011 and fi nal recommendations in November 2011. The government is expected to publish its proposals in response to the Family Justice Review recommendations at the end of January 2012.

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has issued a new set of court statistics which it states supports a comprehensive reform programme across the justice system. The statistics show the average length of civil and family cases at every county court, allowing comparisons between courts.
