The British Association of Social Workers (BASW) has stated that it is astonished by comments made by the new president of the Family Division, Lord Justice Wall, who stated in his judgment in EH v London Borough of Greenwich [2010] EWCA Civ 344 that some social workers do little to dispel the perception that they are “arrogant and enthusiastic removers of children from their parents into an unsatisfactory care system – trampling on the rights of parents and children in the process.”

The case of D v D involved a family farming business of which the husband was the majority shareholder, his shareholding having been gifted to him by various members of his family prior to, and during, the marriage. The court had to consider whether a clean break could be achieved where the outcome would be funded through the business.
