The case of R v R involved substantial assets, a large proportion of which had been inherited by the husband. Of interest is the treatment of the different types of assets and also the judge’s approach to the financial information presented by the parties.

The facts

The husband and wife were born in Nigeria. They married in London in 1967. In 1972, the parties acquired British citizenship. The following year, the husband returned to Nigeria and in 1974, the wife and their children joined him.
